    • St. Johnstone’s Craig Levein has won more Scottish top-flight matches as a manager against Aberdeen (P33 W17 D8 L8) than any other opponent, though he is currently on his longest winless run against the Dons in the league (3 – L2 with Hearts, D1 with St. Johnstone).

  3. 'Season continues to lurch towards void of nothingness'published at 14:46 27 February

    Aberdeen fans voice

Another Saturday, another miserable performance from the men in red as Aberdeen’s season continues to lurch, rudderless, towards a void of nothingness.

Neil Warnock wasn’t wrong in his pre-match assessment that there would be little money being placed on his side ahead of the meeting with Kilmarnock – Aberdeen were, for the third time this season, out thought, out fought and bullied by a Kilmarnock side that typifies everything that this current iteration of the Dons are lacking.

Derek McInnes’ side have taken five goals off his former employers this season with no reply and the Rugby Park outfit will be licking their lips in anticipation of a Scottish Cup quarter-final at Pittodrie a week on Saturday.

For Aberdeen, the cup looks the only viable route back to European football – Killie’s win moves them 13 points clear of the Dons in fourth and there is nothing to suggest that Warnock will be able to magic up a run towards the end of the season that would enable Aberdeen to make up that deficit.

Ironically, if Dave Cormack and the rest of the Pittodrie board thought that bringing in the cult of personality that is Warnock to the club would allow them to fly under the radar then the complete opposite is coming to the fore.

The outspoken Yorkshireman has not been shy about pointing out deficiencies in the Aberdeen squad which pre-dates his arrival. It leads to a natural conclusion that whoever was brought in to replace Barry Robson (whether on an interim basis or otherwise) would struggle to form a cohesive team out of the disparate parts that make up the Dons squad.

The truth of the matter is that there are some good (and in some cases, excellent) players within this squad, but is there a good team? Every Aberdeen fan looked at the squad during the early stages of the season and picked out an imbalance with a lack of options to change things up if Robson’s favoured 3-5-2 failed to muster results.

Lo and behold, the squad's make-up came back to bite Robson and with the dithering and delaying over his position, the Dons missed the boat during the January window to address those issues. The responsibility sits with Steven Gunn on the football operations side of the club and, ultimately, the buck stops at the very top in the form of the chairman.

The board should also be concerned about Warnock’s post-match comments from the game on Saturday – usually when a manager singles out individual players (or groups) for criticism in the modern game there is usually only one outcome.

Make no mistake, Aberdeen are currently the most out of form side in the league. Even Ross County, Livingston and St Johnstone have mustered a win in their last five games. Aberdeen need to be extremely mindful of sleepwalking their way into a relegation play-off place – Terry Butcher’s Hibs team is still fresh enough in the memory to remind fans where this season could potentially head.

  4. Warnock on attempting to end winless run, not being on holiday and a 'horrible video'published at 10:58 27 February

Aberdeen manager Neil Warnock has been speaking to the media before his side host St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday.

Here are the best lines from his press conference:

    • He says they have to "stop feeling sorry for ourselves" as they look to get back to winning ways.

    • When asked if they are starting to pay closer attention to what is going on behind them in the table, he said he hasn't given it a thought, and is focusing on getting more out of the players and himself.

    • Warnock refuted the notion that he is at the club on a "holiday". "Make no mistake, I would have picked a warmer place if I wanted a holiday," he said. Insists he is "working his socks off" to turn fortunes around.

    • He bemoaned some of the goals they have been giving away, and says they went through it all yesterday in an analysis session. "I thought it was about time we had a horrible video," he added.

    • When asked about the challenge St Johnstone will pose, the Englishman said he is looking more at his own side than what St Johnstone will do.

    • There are no fresh injury worries.

  7. 'Aberdeen lack leadership right across the board' published at 17:59 26 February

Michael Stewart column Image source, BBC/SNS

Aberdeen, as a club, lack leadership right across the board at this moment.

Neil Warnock has come up here and, so far, hasn’t been able to change their fortunes at all. These are concerning times at Pittodrie.

I can’t see them inserting themselves into the fight for European football. Top six is toss of a coin stuff, but in terms of playing on the continent next term, I can’t see it at all.

There’s no doubt it’s a talented squad. Defensively though, they simply aren’t good enough.

Missing out on Europe would have serious ramifications for next season, and for whoever takes on the role permanently in the summer. If things don’t turn around quickly, it makes that job all the more difficult.

It would leave a legacy of negativity around this squad as a whole. The club needs a leader to come in and actually take control of the football side of the operation. Until then, it appears as though Aberdeen will remain rudderless.

  8. 'Warnock will be scratching his head' - McCullochpublished at 12:51 26 February

Neil Warnock on the Aberdeen touchlineImage source, SNS

Neil Warnock's Aberdeen "need to turn it around soon" but have "too many good players" to be dragged into the relegation fight, according to Lee McCulloch.

The Dons suffered a 2-0 defeat at Kilmarnock, and the English manager is still searching for his first league win since taking over earlier this month.

"Neil Warnock will be scratching his head, even with the experience he's got," former Rangers captain McCulloch told BBC's Scottish Football Podcast. "When you look at Aberdeen's squad and you see them individually, they've got a really good team.

"They need to start winning games and they're not. When Neil Warnock came in I was waiting on a manager bounce and I'm thinking they're going to go and they'll end up finishing top six with the players they've got.

"Neil comes out after the game and he says they need to be more ruthless, they need to be more aggressive in the tackle. He will be scratching his head but I don't see them getting drawn in [to the relegation fight]. I think they've got too many good individuals.

"They've got Miovski scoring goals, looks lively up front, really good player in the middle of the park. You've got Leighton Clarkson who can play.

"That was a difficult game for them [against Kilmarnock], but they need to start turning it around soon."

  12. 'Season ticket will be handed back on Monday' published at 12:36 25 February

    Your Views

We asked for your thoughts after Aberdeen's winless league run continued at Rugby Park.

Here's a taste of what you had to say:

Marti: Season ticket will be handed back on Monday, absolutely fed up of the performances now. We don't deserve this & can only take so much, spent far too much following this lot for pretty much no return.

Fred: Such a poor performance, no drive, no energy and no fight. Our rebuild produced a defence that cannot defend, a midfield with no creativity and forwards who either don’t play or cannot score. A new manager should be brought in now so the inevitable clear out and rebuild can be worked on. Top six? I very much doubt it. New direction needed.#

Karen: Said before the Warnock appointment that he wasn't the man for the job short or long term. The chairman & board have made the club a laughing stock. As a 32-year season ticket holder, I won't return until there is root & branch changes to the structure of the club.

Andy: So Warnock reckoned the Dons would be the underdogs today, he certainly wasn't joking there. I watched the game and there was a country mile between the sides. If I was Dave Cormack, once this sorry season is over, I'd be going cap in hand to Derek McInnes.

Niall: Another toothless display in Ayrshire where we used to be so dominant. This Dons side will begin running out of games to expect anything beyond a top 6 place. A total rebuild needed from the back. Far too weak in defence, no enough cohesion and creativity in midfield and total reliance on one in-form striker. Standard have slipped so far this season.

Alison: Same rubbish, different game. Watching Aberdeen just now really is eye bleeding stuff. The amazing travelling fans let down once again. Bottom six beckons.

Jimibub: This is the exact same as under Barry Robson. Where is the difference? Nothing. Barry clearly was not the problem. 10th will be a successful season at this point.

Anon: Clear to see team has given up. No fight, leaders or desire to dig in. One last meaningful game in Scottish cup. If they can’t be bothered turning up for that then they are as well turning lights off at Pittodrie until next season. Shambles.

  17. Kilmarnock 2-0 Aberdeen: What the manager saidpublished at 17:41 24 February

    Neil WarnockImage source, SNS

Interim Aberdeen boss Neil Warnock told BBC Scotland: "I thought we did alright first half, if I'm honest. Then we gave the goal away. Bojan just slept, he left his man. Instead of being able to do stuff at half time, they're all flat because they've just conceded a goal.

"We need an edge in the club and we don't have an edge. They're nice lads, and I'm not saying they're not trying, but you've got to compete physically with a team like this.

"We haven't got enough. We've got Shinnie who talks, and that's about it. It is difficult on the surface. We've got to try and give them an edge that they haven't got. They should be battling and winning tackles, it wasn't there in the second half and I'm disappointed.

"I've just got to do whatever I can. It's going to be a big job for somebody coming in. The recruitment's got to be right. There's too many players of the same ilk.

"They're not nasty or anything like that. How many times did they leave the foot in today and the referee doesn't do anything about it. Why don't we leave a foot in? Why don't we be a little bit nasty sometimes? it doesn't do any harm."

  18. Kilmarnock 2-0 Aberdeen: Analysis published at 17:15 24 February

    Kilmarnock v AberdeenImage source, SNS

    Sean McGill, BBC Sport Scotland

It was Kilmarmock's excellent form that led Neil Warnock to suggest his side were underdogs heading into this meeting, a statement that seemed to draw the ire of some supporters who believe the club's ambitions and outlay aren't being fulfilled.

As the clock ticks down on their chances of reaching the top six, their performances continue to lack any kind of urgency.

Their calamitous defending has been somewhat salvaged by their Bojan Miovski-led offensive front, but the Macedonian was completely isolated as the visitors registered just a singular shot on target.

If the veteran manager was brought north of the border to deliver some hard truths and inject some short-term steel in this side, his mission is proving unsuccessful so far.

  19. Polvara replaces Clarkson in only Dons change published at 14:30 24 February

Neil Warnock makes just one change to the Aberdeen side that drew 2-2 with Hibernian at Pittodrie last weekend.

Dante Polvara comes in to replace Leighton Clarkson, while the interim manager sticks with the same back four despite his vocal concerns about their ropey performances since his arrival.
