  2. Wolves v Brighton: Pick of the statspublished at 18:14 27 February

Here are the key facts and figures before Wednesday's FA Cup fifth-round tie between Wolves and Brighton:

    • This is just the second FA Cup meeting between Wolves and Brighton, with Wolves winning a third round tie 3-2 in 1978-79.

    • Brighton have won their past three away games against Wolves in all competitions, having won just one of their previous 11 visits to Molineux before this (D7 L3).

    • Wolves are looking to reach the FA Cup quarter-final for the third time this century, previously doing so in 2002-03 and 2018-19.

    • Since promotion to the Premier League in 2017, Brighton are looking to reach the FA Cup quarter-final for the fourth time (2017-18, 2018-19 and 2022-23). They had only done so twice in their history before this (1982-83 and 1985-86).

    • Brighton's Joao Pedro has scored six goals in his past three FA Cup games. He is the joint-top scorer in this season's competition with five (first round onwards), netting a hat-trick in the fourth round against Sheffield United.

  3. De Zerbi on Mitoma injury and making 'fans happy'published at 15:33 27 February

    Nicola Pearson
    BBC Sport journalist

Roberto de Zerbi has been speaking to the media before Brighton's FA Cup fifth round tie against Wolves on Wednesday.

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

    • De Zerbi confirmed that Karou Mitoma is likely to miss the remainder of the season with a back injury and added: "It is an important problem, I think two to three months [out] but that finishes the season [for him]."

    • He also confirmed that Evan Ferguson and Joel Veltman are unavailable for Wednesday's match, while Danny Welbeck will be checked tomorrow in what is a "bad situation" for the club.

    • Asked if he was frustrated by the injury difficulties, De Zerbi said: "No I am not frustrated, it can happen in football, this situation has never changed between September and now. We [try] to work with enthusiasm and pride, try to transform the problem to opportunities like we have done until this moment. But don't worry because tomorrow we fight to try and win the game, away at Fulham and away the same in Europe against Roma too."

    • He said it is a "big opportunity" if they beat Wolves to reach the quarter final and that they "want to win and make our fans happy, make our club happy".

    • On their opponents, he said: "[They are a] very good team, playing well, they won at Chelsea and Tottenham. I watch a lot of their last games, they have clear style of play, lots of good players especially in attack, everywhere, they are competing to reach a European place in table."

    • On using disappointment from semi-final defeat on penalties last season, he said: "My focus is to play well, to keep our organisation on the pitch and to play showing character, patience, pride - our values are more important than penalties or results. To reach results we have to play as Brighton."

    • Asked about the red card Billy Gilmour received in comparison to similar challenges that didn't result in a sending off, he said: "It is a difficult to take decision in that situation. Development of football is different to what you see on TV, on TV it is totally different. I don't know the rule but if you have played football you can understand the foul of Billy Gilmour because it is part of football."

  4. 'We want Roberto to stay as long as possible'published at 10:45 27 February

Roberto de Zerbi looks onImage source, PA Media

Chief Executive Paul Barber believes Brighton have an "attractive package" for players and staff and wants manager Roberto de Zerbi to stay with the club "as long as possible".

The Italian has been linked with jobs at numerous other clubs following his appointment by the Seagulls in September 2022. In that time, De Zerbi has guided Brighton to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, an FA Cup semi-final and the Europa League knockout phase.

Barber told BBC Radio Sussex: "We want Roberto to stay as long as possible because he's doing a great job. It's not rocket science to work out that the better someone does in a job, the more they're going to be linked with other jobs and potentially at bigger clubs that are playing in even higher-level competitions than us.

"But when we're operating in the top six or seven of the Premier League, when we're in the last 16 of the Europa League, when we're still in the FA Cup - we're operating at the highest levels of the game, so we're confident we've got an attractive package here to want to work with and stay with us.

"We've got to shed off this constant thing of 'we're a feeder club for the bigger clubs, whether it is players, coaches or staff'. We're actually doing OK. We're still humble, we're still very cognisant of where we've come from and the journey we're still on, but we've also got a lot of good things going here. I'm confident that means a lot of good people want to come here and also stay here."

  5. 'Dyche is Brighton's kryptonite'published at 10:45 27 February

    Scott McCarthy
    Fan writer

    Brighton fan's voice graphic

The mere sound of Sean Dyche's trademark gravelly voice is enough to break Brighton fans out in a cold sweat. Why? Because the last time a Dyche-managed team lost at Amex Stadium was 2013.

Back then, the very idea of Brighton qualifying for Europe would have been totally far-fetched. And yet while Albion have climbed from the Championship to the Premier League's top six in the intervening 11 years, one constant has remained - Dyche's hold over Brighton.

Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Jose Mourinho - all have suffered at least one defeat at the Amex. But not Dyche. He is Albion's kryptonite. What else explains his Everton side winning 5-1 in Sussex last season and his relegated Burnley team triumphing 3-0 the year before?

There was something rather apt that it was two players who have done more than any others to establish Brighton in the Premier League combining to deny Dyche another win.

The two turns from Pascal Gross were beautiful before curling a pinpoint right-footed cross towards Lewis Dunk. Brighton's captain did the rest, powering a header into the one corner that the formidable Jordan Pickford could not reach.

If Albion sneak back into Europe by a single point come the end of May, the moment Gross became the leading assister in the Premier League this season and Dunk marked his 400th league appearance for the club with a goal will look pivotal.

Brighton's stadium does not currently have any statues outside it. If the club were to start, then Dunk and Gross should be one and two on the list of candidates - and not just for preventing Brighton being Dyched.

  6. 'Fantastic to have another big game to go to' - Barber on Romapublished at 08:37 27 February

Brighton players celebrate a Europa League victoryImage source, Getty Images

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber has told BBC Radio Sussex that the Seagulls' Europa League last-16 tie against Roma will be "another big tick on the supporters' journey around Europe".

Having topped a group containing Ajax, Marseille and AEK Athens, the Seagulls will play the away leg of their last-16 tie in Rome on 7 March, with the return leg at Amex Stadium a week later.

"It's a really exciting draw," said Barber. "Sitting and looking at some of the names that were in the pot, whether it was AC Milan or Leverkusen and some of the bigger European clubs, thankfully some of them we couldn't draw in that round.

"It's fantastic to have another big game to go to and a big city to visit. For our fans that have already been to Amsterdam, Athens and Marseille, it's another big tick on their journey around Europe.

"We know it's going to be a tough game, in the last 16 of the Europa League there aren't going to be any easy draws. This is a game everybody is really looking forward to."

  7. Your views on Saturday's gamepublished at 12:59 26 February

    Your views

We asked you for your thoughts on Saturday's Premier League match between Brighton and Everton.

Here are some of your comments:

    Brighton fans

Bill: At the end of the season it will be interesting to see how many points we gained from clubs in the top half of the table and how many from clubs in the bottom half.

Mick: Given the history, it was always going to be a difficult game. Always on top but unable to penetrate the massed defence. We faded as the game wore on and conceded a well taken goal. We did show more energy after the three substitutions but that was made more difficult after the Billy Gilmour dismissal. Fully deserved equaliser from Dunk who was brilliant throughout. We missed Kaoru Mitoma.

Ashley: We really found it tough to break through Everton's defence but take a point and we move on to the cup game against Wolves. Tariq Lamptey was my man of the match and yet again skipper Dunk saved us.

Guy: Brighton played well. Lots of good link-up play but we just lacked the cutting edge until Dunky powered his later header into the top corner. A well deserved point.

    Everton fans

Richard: Good defensive display again, it seems it is the only way we can play. The fourth best defence in the league but fourth from bottom - it doesn’t make sense. Oh yeah! The 10-point deduction! Give us fans our points back. It’s football, not politics.

Chis: 1-0 up against 10 men and we sat back instead of going for the kill. Typical Dyche football and got what we deserved! The loss of those two points could be vital at the end of the season.

Mark: We really need to be earning more than draws. We are difficult to beat but struggling to score enough goals to win. Goals need to become more prevalent soon.

Russ: Negative Dyche against 10 men. He does the opposite of what is needed every time.

  8. Brighton 1-1 Everton: Analysispublished at 18:57 24 February

    Michael Beardmore
    BBC Sport journalist

While plenty - managers, players, the level, even the stadium - has changed about Brighton over the past 15 years, one thing hasn't: Lewis Dunk.

It was fitting that the Seagulls skipper - described as a "Brighton legend, the soul of the team" by boss Roberto De Zerbi - popped up with a stoppage-time equaliser to mark his 400th league appearance for the club.

He rarely gets the plaudits or headlines that some of Brighton's flair players enjoy but his importance will never be underplayed by those closest to the club.

His goal - a trademark booming header - got his team-mates out of jail a bit as, not for the first time, they had failed to make their supremacy over a weaker opponent show in the scoreline.

But a point is better than nothing as the Seagulls bid to secure European football at the Amex for a second successive season.

They do, however, need their injury issues to clear up, with Kaoru Mitoma's back problem forcing him to miss this game and robbing De Zerbi of yet another creative outlet.

  9. 'Character we showed with 10 was outstanding' - Dunkpublished at 18:33 24 February

Lewis Dunk of Brighton & Hove Albion celebrates scoringImage source, Getty Images

Brighton defender Lewis Dunk after capping his 400th league appearance for the club with a stoppage-time leveller against Everton: "Mixed emotions – we are frustrated not to win.

"I think we dominated the game, I don’t know what they had other than the goal? T (Tariq Lamptey) cleared one off the line but that was probably their two chances.

"Against them, defending set-pieces is tough, that’s what they are good at but we have to kill games off when we are dominating them and we’ve been speaking about that for a while now.

"That’s the next step we have to make but the character we showed when going down to 10 men was outstanding and to come back and get a draw was massive.

"I said after the win at Sheffield United that we had a massive six, seven, eight games coming up that could define our season and hopefully today was a massive point."

  10. 'Our table could be different' - De Zerbi on another drawpublished at 18:28 24 February

Roberto De Zerbi, Manager of Brighton and Hove Albion, applauds the fansImage source, Getty Images

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi to BBC Match of the Day after his 10-man Seagulls rescued a stoppage-time draw against relegation-battling Everton: "Everton are a very good team but we played very well and I think we deserved to win.

"We have a big respect for the opponent always but I have to be honest and I think we played much better and we created more chances to score.

"But we are playing with a lot of, too many, injuries, especially in attack and we are losing a lot of important points and places in the table and I am frustrated for it because we have eight or nine draws – if you analyse these draws you can see how many times we deserved to win.

"I am frustrated because our table could be different if you analyse the quality of the games, how many chances we created in respect of the opponent – today was like Fulham, Burnley, Sheffield United.

"Today we made a lot of mistakes in the last 20 metres, we had many chances to score and we lost another two points."

  11. Brighton 1-1 Everton: Key statspublished at 17:46 24 February

    • Brighton are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League home games (W5 D6), only losing once in their last 15 at the American Express Stadium (W7 D7) despite keeping just one clean sheet in that time (0-0 against Wolves in January).

    • Everton are unbeaten in their last four Premier League away games against Brighton W2 D2), scoring eight goals and conceding just two.

    • Lewis Dunk’s 95th minute goal for Brighton was the latest equaliser Everton have conceded in a Premier League away game since John Terry made it 3-3 in the 98th minute for Chelsea in January 2016.

    • Brighton have both scored and conceded in 21 of their 26 Premier League games this season, more than any other side in the competition.

    • Brighton’s Pascal Gross has either scored or assisted a goal in each of his last four Premier League games. The German created six chances today – only against Watford in February 2019 has he created more in a home game in the competition (10).

    • Everton’s Jarrod Branthwaite has scored two goals in his last four Premier League games, one more than in all of his previous 29 matches in the competition combined (1).

  12. Full-time: Brighton 1-1 Evertonpublished at 17:13 24 February

    Have your say

Lewis Dunk's stoppage-time header condemned Everton to another Premier League draw as 10-man Brighton salvaged a point at Amex Stadium.

Both goals came from central defenders as Dunk headed home Pascal Gross' cross five minutes into time added on to cancel out Jarrad Branthwaite's superb opener.

Branthwaite had produced a forward's finish to break the deadlock, arrowing a first-time shot into the top corner from 15 yards when a free-kick fell at his feet.

It seemed Everton were on course for a vital victory in their battle to avoid relegation when Brighton's Billy Gilmour was then sent off for a studs-up lunge on Amadou Onana's ankle.

But Dunk's header extended the Toffees' winless league run to nine games and they sit just a point above the relegation zone, having played a match more than 18th-placed Luton.

  14. Brighton v Everton: Sutton's predictionspublished at 14:02 24 February

    Sutton's predictions

BBC pundit Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches again this season, against a variety of guests.

For this weekend's games, he takes on former England striker Jermain Defoe.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-2

This was the game at the end of last season where Everton absolutely demolished Brighton. Sean Dyche's side were brilliant that night, and their win went a long way towards keeping them up.

Everton are badly in need of a repeat of that result this time, too. Although they have drawn three of their past four games, they haven't won in the Premier League since 16 December.

Brighton have been back in the goals recently after a spell at the start of the year where they could not score, but I am going to back Everton to nick this one.

They will have the same gameplan they used when they beat the Seagulls in May, which is to defend deep and counter-attack quickly. If it works again, they will win.

    Jermain's prediction: 3-1

  15. De Zerbi on Mitoma's injury, Roma draw and the challenge of Evertonpublished at 15:12 23 February

    Katie Stafford
    BBC Sport journalist

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi has spoken to the media before Saturday's Premier League game against Everton.

Here are the main lines from his news conference:

    • Kaoru Mitoma is a doubt because of a "problem with his back", which was suffered before last week's win against Sheffield United. He confirmed it is not related to Mason Holgate's challenge on Mitoma which saw the Blades defender dismissed.

    • Reflecting on the Europa League draw which will see Brighton face Roma: "I want to keep my eyes on the Everton game and then we play in the FA Cup. Then we will think about Roma and the game in the Europa League. For sure it's a tough game, but if we want to go far then we have to win against Roma or another team."

    • He said Everton "are a very good team" and their league position does not reflect their capability and "clear style of play".

    • On what his side need to do to get a result against Sean Dyche's team: "We have to be ready to not concede on the counter attack, move the ball in the right way and be prepared to defend set-pieces. We have to win those second balls."

    • De Zerbi said it is "difficult to understand" whether January signing Valentin Barco is ready to be in contention for first-team selection. He added: "We have to give him as much time to understand the new country and new style of play."

    • Ansu Fati and Pervis Estupinan visited De Zerbi's home this week, where he cooked them pasta and told them how the club "are there to help the young players with big talent".
