    ACTIVE

Started at: 15:19 GMT on Tue 27 February

Flooding is expected - immediate action required

Levels remain high in the River Nene as the water makes its way down the system. During periods of high tide, the River Nene will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding of the North Bank Road, between Peterborough and Rings End. Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place, and further updates will be available through local media. We are closely monitoring the situation and this message will be updated by 15:00 on 28/02/2024, or before, if the situation changes.

Started at: 20:12 GMT on Tue 27 February

Flooding is possible - be prepared

Groundwater levels in East Kent remain very high and are rising significantly again in response to heavy rainfall at the beginning of the week. The Alkham Bourne and the Nailbourne between Lyminge and Littlebourne are flowing. Localised flooding may still affect low-lying land, roads, and water infrastructure around the Elham Valley, Alkham, and Petham. Other communities in East Kent may also be impacted. Please avoid walking or driving through flood water. Further periods of wet weather are forecast from Thursday 29 February and into next week. This is likely to result in higher groundwater levels and flows. We are monitoring the situation and are working with local authorities and communities with the deployment of temporary defences, such as Canterbury City Council’s temporary defences in Barham and the Littlebourne Flood Relief channel. Our staff are maintaining and clearing key structures. Groundwater levels are expected to remain high into Spring 2024. This message will be updated by 1 March 2024, or as the situation changes. Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in the Alton area

    ACTIVE

Started at: 08:54 GMT on Tue 27 February

Flooding is possible - be prepared

Groundwater levels are high but stable at our Farringdon borehole near Alton. Groundwater levels remain above normal levels for this time of year and are at a level where communities may be affected by groundwater flooding within the next few weeks. The catchment remains sensitive to rainfall due to the saturated ground and levels may start to increase again if we receive further rainfall. Low-lying land, gardens, roads and cellars will therefore continue to be at risk of flooding. Due to the nature of groundwater behaviour, this situation could continue for several weeks or longer.

We are continuing to monitor groundwater levels and will update this message on 05/03/2024, or as the situation changes.

Groundwater levels in Deane and Ashe are high and rising slowly. Since Tuesday 20/02/2024, persistent rainfall (39mm) has been recorded at Overton. The level at our borehole in Oakley has risen by 27cm during that time. We expect properties in Deane to be pumping water out of their cellars. Groundwater spring flows are impacting land and roads. Septic tanks will be struggling to operate effectively. The access road from the B3400 into Deane (at Deane Park) could need to be closed this weekend due to flooding. Only small amounts of rain are expected from today (26/02/2024) until Thursday 29/02/2024. However, on Friday 01/03/2024 up to 20mm of rain is expected in Hampshire. Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in the Upper Og Valley

    ACTIVE

Started at: 12:33 GMT on Fri 23 February

Flooding is possible - be prepared

Groundwater levels have risen at at our observation borehole in Draycot Foliat in the Upper Og Valley following rainfall across the area. Groundwater levels are higher than normal for this time of year and are at a level where communities may be affected by flooding from groundwater. The catchment remains sensitive to rainfall due to saturated ground and high groundwater levels. Low-lying land, gardens, roads and cellars will therefore continue to be at risk of flooding. Due to the nature of groundwater behaviour, this situation could continue for several weeks or longer. We are continuing to monitor groundwater levels and will update this message on 01/03/2024, or as the situation changes.
